Trigger Points – Chiropractice Care & Pain

Many chiropractic patients are first introduced to chiropractic care because they are in pain. Accidents, sports injuries or repetitive motion stress can lead to pain that interferes with our daily living activities. It’s when we are limping around the office or laying in crazy positions on the sofa trying to “get comfortable” that someone finally says “I have this great chiropractor….”
How does chiropractic help with pain? Several ways. The first way is the principal of all chiropractic. Chiropractic focuses on removing interference of the nervous system with the goal of allowing the body to heal itself. The most common interferences are subluxations. A subluxation is the misalignment of a vertebra in relation to the other vertebrae. A subluxation can cause any number of symptoms including muscle tension, nerve impingement, deterioration of vertebrae, compressed discs, headaches, sciatica, and more. By working to remove subluxations a chiropractor restores the spine to its normal functioning structure, allowing the body to heal and eliminating pain.
Another way chiropractors can help is by helping a patient restore the natural curvature of the neck and spine. Our spines are curved in specific places. These curves provide perfect balance points to our body, helping us to support the weight we carry (a human head weighs over 8 pounds), to move freely, maintain our balance and absorb shock. These curves are impacted not only by subluxations but also be poor posture and repetitive motion. A good example to consider is the curve of the neck. This curve is a “c” shape that allows your head to balance on your neck without undue stress or fatigue. However, today’s use of computer and other screen technologies is forcing negative changes to our necks. As we lean forward to read, or slouch in our office chairs, the “c” curve slowly straightens out. Now we are out of balance, placing massive amounts of stress on our necks, shoulders and backs. Headaches, muscle tension, and nerve damage are just some of the results of the loss of curves. A chiropractor will work with you to counteract the daily damage of your job or hobbies and help to restore the curve your body needs to function properly.
The types of pain chiropractic can help includes a long, varied list of symptoms. These include (but not limited too):
- Headaches
- Whiplash
- Sciatica
- Muscle fatigue and tension
- Hip pain
- Joint pain
- Numbness and tingling in extremities
- Low back pain
- Rib pain
- Leg cramps
- Slipped or bulging discs
- Earaches
- Jaw pain
- Carpel Tunnel
If you are in pain, and are wondering if chiropractic can help, chances are the answer is yes, it can! Pain interferes with our ability to function day to day. Chiropractic can help remove the interference. Do not wait any longer.
