Services & Techniques

Here at Baldwin Chiropractic, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic wellness care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different chiropractic services we offer in our Kent office.

We Use Several Techniques To Adjust Your Spine.

We provide advanced spinal correction utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic have we been able to provide the level of help and expertise that now exists. These newer correction methods are even safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before.

The Doctors at Baldwin Chiropractic use a variable technique system
This means we use a number of highly-effective, adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we will use on your spine is based on your specific needs in conjuction with our clinical judgment based on years of experience. We do not have a one size fits all philosophy.

Impulse Adjusting Instrument and Neuromechanical Technique
The primary adjusting technique we use  is the Impulse Instrument. It is designed to deliever gentle and precise chiropractic adjustments to the joints of the spine and extremities to relieve pain and restore function.  The Impulse Adjusting Instruemt is controled by a micro-computer circuitry housed within the device that produces a controlled force that chiropractors can use to treat different areas of the body.  It has been heavily researched to provide effective adjustment for patients of all ages.  It is a fantastic way to deliever a chiropractic adjustment without the "cracking" some people dislike.  Patients and practitioners alike are often amazed at the profound changes the smallest repetitive forces can produce.  Patients and practitioners alike are often amazed at the profound changes the smallest repetitive forces can produce.

Diversified Technique
This technique is most often associated with chiropractic adjusting. You will hear an "audible" or pop during this type of adjustment. After identifying which spinal bones have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is administered to free up “stuck” joints...read more

Chiropractic Disc DecompressionLumbar_Distraction_2009.jpg
The Cox® Table for Chiropractic Disc Decompression or CDD.

The CDD table uses decompression (gentle traction) wiht flexion as the patient's lower body is stetched and lowered. This manuver tractions your spine, and decompresses the involved disc.

We apply Chiropractic Disc Decompression on the premier chiropractic decompression instrument, the Cox® Table. This special table makes decompression an integral part of the chiropractic adjustment; delivered to the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, lumbosacral or sacro-iliac spine joints. Hands on care is an integral part of chiropractic.

The Cox® Table naturally allows the doctor's hands to feel the exact tissue tension, as well as sense the patient's response to decompression treatment. This hands on approach allows the chiropractor to respond immediately to the patients needs. This is in stark contrast to other decompression machines, where the doctor straps the patient in… and walks away.

The specific forces and motions create a negative pressure in the patient’s lumbar disc which draws the gelatinous material back into the disc. TRANSLATION: it pulls some of the bulged or herniated matter back into the disc, taking pressure off the nerve.

The primary use for disc decompression is for low back pain with pain into the legs. It can be used for a variety of other low back problems ranging from a loss of motion at the joint level, to jamming of the joints together. Chiropractic Disc Decompression can also work for neck and mid back problems.

If you’ve been to a chiropractor before and prefer to be adjusted in a particular way, let us know. We want you to relax, enjoy and fully benefit from your chiropractic care.

 visit_exam.pngMassage Therapy

Therapeutic massage is a great compliment to chiropractic care. Together, chiropractic and massage facilitate the natural healing process by keeping the body in proper alignment and ensuring a free flow of nerve impulses and circulation of fluids. Massage therapy is offered here at Baldwin Chiropractic, and is covered by some insurance plans as well as on the job injury and auto accident claims.

If you feel you could benefit from massage then please feel free to discuss this with the doctors.

 Spinal Rehabilitation

Spinal rehabilitation consists of dynamic exercises, which use progressive resistance to stimulate the muscles and nerves.

This incorporates both passive (stretching) and active exercise. Stretching helps reduce muscle tension, increase range of motion, develop body awareness and prevent muscle strain during active rehab. Active exercise helps strengthen the muscles which support the spine, and promotes postural alignment. Spinal rehabilitation is very important for helping patients regain full function of the neck and back. It incorporates motion and resistance which then trains the muscles and encourages joints to function more fully during normal daily activities. Spinal rehabilitation also involves specific exercises which maximize flexibility, stabilization, and coordination. Flexibility exercises help reduce pain and reduce the chance of re-injury. Core muscle training is used to help position the spine safely and to help stabilize the spine as the body moves in different positions. If the core muscles are not conditioned, this can increase risk of re-injury from daily activities alone.

Spinal rehabilitation is also very effective in recovery from injury when used in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments. A comprehensive rehabilitation plan for musculoskeletal injuries is composed of the acute, recovery and functional phases. Exercise, in its various forms, is an integral part of all three phases. In most instances rehabilitation begins immediately after injury to minimize the effects of inability and speed up the return to pre-injury status. There is no doubt that strengthening can aid in restoring an injured neck and or back to pre-injury function. The overall goal of rehab is to help return injured spines to full function, and to return each patient to full participation in daily activities. A spinal rehabilitation program will improve strength and endurance, as well as minimize the risk of long-term problems.

Cold Laser

The cold laser is a universal way of treating nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, connective tissue, bone and skin with one simple instrument. The laser light is a non invasive photonic therapy that is easy to apply by directing the probe with a slow scan over the involved area for a 90 second cycle. It is used for the lessening of chronic pain, and to relieve minor muscle and joint pain. This includes arthritis and muscle spasms, stiffness, inflammation, and to temporarily increase local blood circulation where applied as well as promote relaxation of the muscle tissue.

When a cell is actively working to repair itself, it needs a great deal of energy. By stimulating the cells with this specific light source, the healing process is increased, so that they can perform better, faster and more effectively. The laser also stimulates the production of ATP, which is the fuel the cells need for repair. The result is a healing that is enhanced, and takes less time to complete. There are no reported side effects to the light. It is painless, non-toxic and compliments many other therapies.
