We Are a Family Practice – We practice as a family

Did you know that we are a chiropractic family? Dr. Garry Baldwin was the first chiropractor in the office. Susie (my wife) and I opened in 1986. It took me a while, but I hatched a replacement. Dr. Courtney Bostjancic, my daughter, joined me in 2007 than we added her husband Dr. Mike Bostjancic a year later.

Finally we added my niece Dr. Kelly MacIver in 2010. Kind of a fun thought... Courtney just had a son Ethan; I am thinking that in about 25 years we can add one more chiropractor to the group!

Dr. Courtney is my next generation chiropractor. The picture left is when she was about three. I used to whisper in her ear “You would make a great chiropractor someday...” I don’t think that was the deciding factor in her becoming a chiropractor, but I think the thought stuck and after a brief career as a ballet dancer for Fort Worth, Dallas Ballet, she decided to become a chiropractor.

After meeting her future husband Mike Bostjancic, we all ganged up on him and convinced him that being a chiropractor was a great career choice. As chiropractors, we love what we do and felt that when you have a passion for something, working 30 years or more in a profession, and loving it, would be a good move for Michael. Both Courtney and Mike graduated from Life West Chiropractic College one year apart. Kelly and I graduated from Life Chiropractic College in Marietta Georgia.

On an interesting note, Dr. Kelly’s husband’s great aunt was a chiropractor back in 1913. Her name was Eva Shaffer. We are not sure how long she practiced or where, but the fact she was the first is pretty cool. Remember first chiropractic adjustment was done in Davenport, Iowa in 1895 and the first chiropractic clinic was established in 1895 in Davenport by DD Palmer.  Aunt Eva wasn’t far behind.

So as a family, we practice together. We use the same technique, go to the same seminars, we are all certified in the technique. We practice as a group and have adapted a “Starbucks” philosophy about delivering our adjustments. We believe that you should be able to walk into any Starbucks in the country and get the same good cup of coffee. Our Dr. Kelly’s Great Aunt Eva in 1913 practice is designed so that our patients can walk in any day and see any one of us and receive a great quality adjustment.
